Best used drivers under $250 (that we'd actually put in our own bags)
The two-year-old driver is the best deal in golf. Here's what to look for and what to skip.
Drivers lose a huge chunk of value the day the next model launches, and the actual performance gap between this year and two years ago is tiny. That's the whole argument. Here's what we'd buy under $250 right now.
1. TaylorMade Stealth 2 ($130–$190)
Carbon face, forgiving, sounds fine, tons of them on the used market so you can be picky about condition and shaft. Watch for crown chips near the face — they're cosmetic but you should pay less.
2. Ping G425 Max / LST ($170–$240)
Ping's drivers hold up better than anyone's. A G425 Max is still one of the most forgiving heads you can buy. The LST is worth hunting if you spin it too much.
3. Titleist TSi2 / TSi3 ($150–$240)
The TSi3 is a low-spin players' head that a lot of decent golfers still prefer to the TSR. Usually comes with good stock shafts (Tensei, HZRDUS).
4. Callaway Rogue ST Max ($130–$180)
Underrated. Very forgiving, easy to launch. Not a lot of people ask for it so the prices are soft.
What to check on any used driver
Face for caved-in or "hot" spots (rare, but fatal). Crown for sky marks — cosmetic, discount-worthy. Hosel adapter for stripped screws. Shaft for the word "VeloCore" or "tour" on premium models — a real aftermarket shaft is worth $100+ on its own. And headcover included matters more than people think.
